WOW! What a year in Gator sports! Last years BBQ was a celebration of our 2006 NCAA Tournament Championship. We all had high aspirations for the 2006-2007 sports year, but who would have bet on both football and basketball championships.

This year, we kicked off the 2007-2008 schedule with the same enthusiasm as last year. Although a little more unlikely, we hoped to be sitting here in a year now talking about back-to-back football and back-to-back-to-back basketball championships. Never count a Gator out, huh Ohio State?

Although the football season has not produced the same results as last year’s, the 5th Annual Kickoff BBQ at De Anza Cove in lovely Mission Bay Park certainly did. As always, this event was free for all UFAA members (card or UFAA # required) and just $5 for adult non-members. We had UFAA membership information available at the BBQ for those who wanted to join on the spot, and were successful at “capturing” many new Gators.

The 5th Annual BBQ featured food, drink, and entertainment for everyone from Baby Gators to Big Baby Gators. Entertainment included a tot lot, jumpy, volleyball, football, horseshoes, music, and more. It was the biggest Gator bash of the season to that point, only to be surpassed by the huge numbers of Gators who packed Players, our current game viewing location, for a few of the bigger games. An estimated 165 people enjoyed the San Diego sunshine, met new Gator friends, learned more about the Club’s 2007-2008 agenda, and kicked off the season the right way!

There was plenty of sunscreen, appetites for food and fun, and Gator Pride to go around.
